Privacy Policy

Falo is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) app operated by Rômulo Amaral ("we"). This policy explains what happens to data when you use the app.

What we send to the AI and why

Three things leave the device, always after you tap to create a board and after accepting the notice shown on first use:

• Scene photos. When you take or choose a photo, a downscaled version of the image is sent to our server and forwarded to OpenAI (our AI provider) to identify words related to the scene.
• Voice recordings. When you describe a board by speaking, the audio is sent to our server and transcribed by an OpenAI speech model. Only the resulting text is used.
• Text descriptions. The text you type or dictate is sent to pick the board's vocabulary.

None of it is stored on our servers: photos, audio and text are processed in memory and discarded. For up to 24 hours we keep only a technical fingerprint (hash) of what was sent and the generated word list, to avoid reprocessing. OpenAI may retain API data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring, per their policy. We recommend photos of scenes and objects, not faces.

Data on your device (never sent anywhere)

Saved board thumbnails, the user's photo on the "I" tile, cached pictograms for offline use, the name and your preferences. Speech is generated on the device itself. The backup is a file only you keep.

Progress and sentence analysis (optional)

The app keeps, on the device only, a log of the sentences built on the board (words, timestamps and compose time) to show progress to the caregiver. If the caregiver enables "Analyze sentences with AI", only the word lists are sent to our server and AI provider to classify the communication stage, with no name, no photo, and nothing that identifies the person. This analysis is off by default and can be turned off at any time.

Subscription

The AI features are part of the Falo Premium subscription, sold by Apple. Payment is processed by Apple and we never see card details. To confirm that the subscription is active we use RevenueCat, a purchase validation service, which receives the App Store receipt and an anonymous identifier generated on the device. No name, email or photo is sent to it.

What we do NOT do

• No accounts and no identifying data collection.
• No analytics, advertising, or tracking.
• No selling or sharing data with third parties beyond the AI processing and subscription validation described above.

Children and the people we serve

Falo is a tool operated by a caregiver or by the user themselves. The "I" tile photo stays exclusively on the device. We recommend that photos used to create boards show scenes and objects, not faces.

Your rights (GDPR/LGPD)

Since we keep no personal data on servers, there is nothing to delete on our side: deleting the app removes all local data. Questions: contact@faloaac.com.
